Community Chef
Community Chef has been built from the bottom up, starting with the nutritional needs of older people and the desire to keep them healthy and active. The taste, quality and variety of the meals is paramount.
Twenty one local governments supported by both the State and Commonwealth Governments have made the new $24 million kitchen possible. It is one of the most advanced kitchens of its kind, using E-water in place of chemicals, capturing water and heat, reducing energy use and minimising waste.
It is a demonstration of what can be achieved through clever design and collaboration. Professional partners have been committed to creating a facility that is state of the art. This will increase food safety, meal quality and the working conditions for employees.
Community Chef has been developed for the future, to increase choice, provide greater flexibility, meet growing demand and meet higher consumer expectations. Its pasteurising process will protect food quality and increase shelf life. It will also achieve economies of scale that will allow seasonal menu rotation, provision of special meals and ongoing research and product improvement.
